My wife, if she can, just walks away and gives me space when the verbal abuse starts flowing.
It is a release. And yes I had no control of this, although I have tried and tried over the last upteen years. Just too many things would stack up (mentally) and the bubble would "pop". Once I started in therapy those attacks sub-sided immediately. Hence that became a more constructive outlet for the release.
