do whatever you can to NOT react. he is trying to bait you into continuing a relationship with him, like a kid almost, who needs attention, even negative attention is better than no attention. as long as you react, he will continue, because THAT is what he really wants -- someone to argue with.
and about abuse. I have been in abusive relationships before, and I have experienced what felt like abuse by my very otherwise-loving and respectful husband. I will tell you that dealing with a depressed person feels very much like abuse, even if it isn't.
