Through everything, I always remember that I love my dh and he loves me. My dh might not always be able to show me that love how I'd like, but I never doubt that love is there! A while back, I almost left my dh. I was getting caught up in his d. I was not taking care of myself. His d was consuming me. I no longer do that. I now realize that his d distorts his thinking. I treat his d just as I treat his Diabetes...very logically, not emotionally. I educate myself about d. I take an active part in my dh's treatment...but not too active of a role. I realize it is his illness and his treatment...he needs to take the lead but I will help in any way I can.
I am now able to find strength in myself...by keeping myself happy. I do not allow myself to become absorbed by my dh's little world of negativity. I try to look at everything and find the positive in it. I make sure that I do things that make me happy and feel good about myself. I love my job and my coworkers so that really helps. I look forward to going to work. I run a gymnastic program at a YMCA so I get to go to work and "play." It is nice because I get exercise, am around lots of happy kids doing what they love and am teaching a sport that I love. The YMCA is a great positive place that helps a lot of people which certainly helps.
I also volunteer...not that I have much free time, but I really enjoy it. I am the social chairman and secretary for our neighborhood pool which I really enjoy. I also swim laps almost everyday. I volunteer at my children's school. I try to take a big, active role in my daughter's lives and enjoy every minute of it. I have two dogs that I walk a couple of hours every day. They are so very happy to take their walks. I enjoy making them happy as well as getting some much needed exercise, talking to neighbors and enjoying the pretty trees and flowers in everyone's yards. As I am writing this, I realize that I do keep very busy with things that truly make me happy which is exactly what I need to allow me to stay strong and positive. Good luck!
