As far as I know, unipolar depression is not easy to be distinguished with bipolar 2, that manic is not obvious. Since both are treated by very different meds, psy. should distinguish between the 2, usually by giving med that only respond to 1 of them. After the diagnosis is determined, they will try different streams of meds, on the effects and also side effects.

Bipolar 2 is on paper a more serious mental illness. And yet also on paper it can be treated effectively to 80-90% of patients.

So, continue working for urself, and wait for right meds are found and take effects. It might take months, and there might be mood changes due to different effects of the meds. Try, I know it is very hard, not to take his behaviors personal, and if u can also reach his psy., anx if u can, mark and record his sleeping pattern and behaviours that call to ur attention. That info is helpful to the psy to decide the med, generally speaking.

U alreadh did very great job for ur hus. It is almost mission impossible to persuade a person in serious depression to sek professional help. Now it is time for urself. Make as much room for urself as possible. I found taking a new class, learn a new hobby work for me. See if that works for u. Best wishes.
